Today is my sixth day in Málaga, and boy has time flown since I arrived! I thought I would repeat a few of the posts from Cusco, as I learned a lot in the process of reflecting on the good and the new in my last destination.
Some information I learned since arriving in Málaga:
1. July is the Black Friday of Spain. Sales everywhere, people everywhere. Curiously: malls everywhere.
2. Málaga is the unspoken vacation capital of Europe. How I did not know this fact, I do not know. However, I made several new German friends, which has been lovely!
3. Grocery store employees handle your produce for you. I am someone who has a good feel for which avocados are ripe that day and which potato will give me the starchiest flavor. Thus, imagine my surprise when an employee shyly came up to me and told me he was the one to handle the produce! (Update: he did a great job picking out the tomato and potato.)
4. The Euro is weak at the moment, at an almost 1:1 ratio to the USD. When I was a younger traveler in Europe, I remember the Euro trading at 1.5:1 to the USD. Such a change is yet another symptom of the Ukraine crisis, Brexit, and COVID.
5. Southern Spain brings on the heat! I anticipate that the contrast between Peru and Spain makes the heat that much more intense. Gelato, smoothies, and the ocean have been the name of the game here.
Cheers,
MEG
