We are in Rome, and everything is tremendous so far.  So, first off, Air Canada is awesome.  We got to O’Hare and were checking in, when the agent noted that our flight was delayed that “may mean” we would miss our connection to Rome.  Most airlines wouldn’t even have cared (not their direct problem); instead, they immediately re-booked us on a direct flight on another airline!  So, we traipsed across the airport and happily boarded one flight, not two!

When we landed in Rome, I contacted Nancy via WhatsApp (they were scheduled to land 15 minutes before us).  She didn’t respond, and I had a moment where I realized that I never printed out where we were staying in Rome (the one place I missed).  If they were delayed, I would have no way of knowing where to go!  Luckily, she responded when we were in baggage claim, and we all connected happily just outside of customs.

We are doing Airbnb, and it took a bit to get connected with our person, but it is a cute apartment within blocks of Piazza Novona.  We showered and then got a great lunch of delicious sandwiches and coffees- watching the people stroll by, we felt like we had truly arrived.  We spent the afternoon wandering around neighborhoods,

stopping in old churches to see amazing Caravaggio paintings

and the second Jesuit church ever.  That was particularly amazing.

We also went to the Trevi Fountain and threw coins over our shoulder to ensure our return!

We ended up at a great pizzeria, where my kids looked to take advantage of the younger European drinking age!  Then, we all collapsed and slept and slept and slept.  Day 2- here we come!
